The Department of Agriculture, in order to protect American crops from the danger of fruit fly and related pests, has imposed a season of quarantine, to bc%*c« effective from einlpr 1, on all fruits and vegetables offered for import into the United States from all countries except Canada. Tho quarantine excludes fresh fits, peaches, plums, apricots, and other perishable fruits, but an exception is made in favour of Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania, based upon assurances from responsible officials regarding the non-existence of these fruit pests. However, the continuance of such privilege depends upon tho continued freedom from fruit-fly infection.
