TAXING COUNTRY CLUBS. Per Press Association, Auckland, August 14. Afc the annual mooting of thm Auckland Racing Club, the Hon. E, Mitchelson, chairman, .referring to taxation, .said that the club paid to the Government £74,784 djring the financial' year. Tliis was £IO,BB-1 more than was paid to owners in stake money. The proposed reduc lion in taxation would afford relief directly and inllirecily to the country dubs. Without this relief many o: thorn would have ceased to exist, as they would not again be permitted to race on any course other than their own. "We are promised a now Gaming Bill," said Sir Edwin, "bufc its* provisions have not yet been made* known, although it certainly will provide for an increased number of permits." He predicted that if these were g.eater in number than those reectamended by the Racing Commission the Bill would have a hard run. He was hoping it would also contain: provision for telegraphing money to racecourses for investment through the secretaries of the various dubs, for the publication of dividends, and for re-establishing telegraph offiooj on the racecourse.
