On Saturday afternoon some woman's clothing was found on the bank of the Wanganui river by an Aramoho resident, and the police were called to investigate. A velour hat and a shoe were found, and with them a book which bore in the flyleaf the name of "A. B. Bantrey, Hawera." When the tide receded search was made further down the river bank, and the other shoe was found embedded in the mud. The Hawera police were communicated with, and inquiry was prosecuted by them, but no definite clue could be found as to the woman's identity. A remarkable occurrence is mentioned by Father Bernard Huss, of St. Francis' iNative Colltge, Mananhill, >iatal, in a letter to Mr F. W. Fitzsimons, a director of the Port Elizabeth Museum, South Africa. The lather says: "Three days ago a very Jarge python, an inveterate fowl thief, entered our fowlhouse ' through the fowl-hole; but, after the feast was over the snake could not get out. So it climbed up and lay on a rafter, the head hanging, down. Thus it was easy to. kill it with a hoe." when opened the python was found to contain two big fowls, no less than 14 young to ft.is and a number of crabs. Two hundred eggs were also taken from it. -

Mr P. Thomson asked at this morning's meeting of the Hospital Board if everything possible was being done to prevent influenza getting a foothold. He asked if the. Borough Council was doing anything in the matter. The chairman said he did not know if the Borough Council was doing anything, but very useful work was being done at the school. The best preventive, said Mr Solo, was for everyone who was attacked by influenza to go to bed and remain there until well again, if that was done there would be no danger of any serious outbreak.
