OBITUARY

The death took place on Saturday night at Awakino of the wife of Mr Alfred Black afttr a long illness. Mrs Black was a member of the well-known Lye family of Tikorangi, and spent, the younger years of her life in that district. She had lived for 20 years in Awakino, where the Black brothers (William and Alfred) made their home. The death is announced from Sydney of Mr David Darcy, the coursing breeder. Afier winning t'je Austraias.an Waterloo Cup at Warwick, he journeyed to Geelong for the Victorian Cup and contracted a chill, pneumonia supervening.

Mrs Mcßrearty, wife of Dr. J. W. , Mcßrearty of Greymouih, died at s.cJO on Saturday evening. The late Mrs Mcßrearty had teen ill for some time. She was born in Sydney forty-six years ago. She was a well read lady, and a painter of some note. She had resided in Greymouih for many years, and was universally admired for the practical assistance she gave to any deserving cause. The Waitara Ma;l reports the death on Thursday last of aa old respected resident of Waitara in the person of Mrs J. G. Christie, widow of the late Constable J. G. Christie, who was siauoned at Waitara for many years. Deceased wiio was 72 years of age, came to New Zealand some 50 years ago, and spent mo:it of her eariy life in Wellington and the Thames district. She had one daughter, Mrs A. Tatton, who predeceased hir some time tack. Her grandfather, Major King, fought in the Maori War, is buried in the old soldiers' cemetery at Waitara. The death occurred on Sunday at The residence of Mr James Campbell, Otnkeho, of an old identity in I the person of Henry William Ellerm. Born at Lower Hutt in 1853, he came; to reside on the Waimate Plains 38 years ago. He then took up a small piece of land on the Upper Winks Road, Manaia, where he resided until four years ago. He acted iu the capacity of stock ager;t at Manaia for many years, starting with Messrs Budge and Good, then with Messrs Stewart and , Corripan and Gillies and Nalder, | and then the Farmers* Co-op until I two years ago.
