At the Magistrate's Court, John Thomas Doherty was charged until manslaughter in respect of tho death of Samuel Janies Cocke, who was killed in a collision between Doherty's oar and another car at Hill’s Road. Evidence was given that Doherty's speed was 30 to 35 miles an hour. The town clerk gave evidence that before the fatality Doherty’s certificate of ability to drive had been cancelled owing to his reckless driving. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. THEFT CHARGE FAILS, Wellington, August 10. Charges of alleged theft of public moneys and forgery were preferred against Prank Victor Coull at the Supreme Court to-day. Accused, in evidence, denied all knowledge of the offence.
