- GREAT PEARL ROBBERY. London, June 1. Steven Roachi, an Italian, who for sixteen years has .acted as go-bsrt/wten for tlio Warwick Company, Lombard Street, in the disposal of precious stones, was charged at the Mansion House Court with stealing pearls valued at over £14,000. Counsel for the prosecution intimated that other charges would bo formulated, involving over £250,000. liajl was fixed at £20,000. ■

A WOMAN’S TRAGEDY. London, Juno 1. The first night of the play “Tho Outsider,” at St. James’ Theatre, had a. more dramatic ending than Hie play itself. The “outsider” is an unqualified bone setter, who cures a famous surgeon’s crippled (daughter in spite of the father’s opposition. The crippled girl’s passionate outcry against her fate is a feature of the play. “When calls were made for the autho', Miss Dorothy Brandon walked on to the stag© with the aid .of a stick, displaying the same limp as the heroine. She has been a..lifelong cripple, and had pur her heart and soul into tho play. LOSS OF BRIGANTINE. Melbourne, June I. At the Inquiry into the hiss of the brigantine Amy Turner, which foundered u-t sea when, on a voyage from Australia, to Manila, the court found that the foundering was due to the weather, the ship filling beyond the capacity of the crew to pump the water out.
