OBITUARY.
( ; A. N. BARRAUD.
The news of the death cf Mr A. N. Barraud, which occurred at Palmerston gorth last night will be received with deep regret by a wide . circle of friends, and in fact, by all Who at any time had come in contact with him. 'Mr A. N. Barraud was the only son of the late Mr Noel Barraud (of the well-known firm, Barraud and Abraham) and married. 1 Miss Marjorie Abraham (sister to .Mr H. E. Abraham, of Stratford), who is left with three young sons,' the eldest being ten years old. The late Mr Barraud was at Wellington College and later at the famous Bedford Grammar School In England, and on returning to New Zealand entered his father’s firm, where he remained until he took the managership for Palmerston' North of- Messrs Booth, MacDonald's business. Palmerston possessed no more popular resident, and in athletic sports he excelled. He was an ex> tennis player and a noted Ijatsman, playing in all Manawatu’s representative cricket 1 matches. He was several times Champion of the Manawatu Golf Club, and had also the honor of having been * the Club’s President. He was only thirty-seven
years of age and apparently in robust • health, hut caught a severe chill through getting wet while out motorf Ing and succumbed to pneumonia after a short illness. Mrs Rochefort, of TeKulti, 'is deceased's only sister.
HARRY NORMAN LIARDET. The sad news that Mr H. Norman Liardet, one of Stratford’s bestknown and most energetic public men for many years, had passed away In Wellington, reached Stratford to-day, and will be very much regretted. The late Mr Liardet was only a little Over sixty years of age and was a son of a well-known Harbourmaster of Liverpool, England. He came to New Zealand in 1885, and took up land on the Opumake Road. He. married Miss Effle Penn (young- * est sister to Messrs. T. Harry Penn and Charles Penn, of this town) who with one son (Mr Geoffrey Liardet)

Iness as Land Agent and Auctioneer In Stratford and, always energetic, began to take a more active part in public affairs., \He was elected Stratford’s first Mayor and did much towards the young borough’s early progress. He was Mayor again in 1902-3 .and was a Councillor in 1900-1, 1905-7 and 1907-8. About 1900, Mr Liardet went to England and onretbrniug..started wiue. ,and spirit
merchant which business he eventually sold, and again went into the Land ftrand General Agency. In 1908 Mr W Llardet wa s chosen to succeed Mr C. M. Montefiore as General Manager for New Zealand of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation and held that position until the time of his death, residing at Wellington. Amongst' other public efforts the late Mr Llardet was 'largely instrumental d in' getting Stratford made a sepaAtc Hospital District and his connecVfcn yfltF the Stratford Mounted Rifles; o t tfhich he was the popular Captain for years, will never be
forgotten by those who had ,the privilege of being associated with him in matters. The interment will take place, at Wellington to-morrow morning. A telegram conveying the deep , sympathy of the Stratford Borough Council with Mrs Liardet and Family in their sad bereavement was despatched to-day by the Town Clerk. /
