The New York World’s San Francisco correspondent states that Arbuckle revealed the fact that his private fortune lias gone as the "esult of the tremendous expenditure for his defence. He received an ornatelydecorated cheque-book in the occasion of his thirty-fifth birthday, but he said ruefully: “I have not enough money now to write one cheque, much less the whole book-full.” Arbuckle formerly was a lavish spender, living in extreme luxury, hut at the present time he is living quietlv.
