“White Australia.”

PROBLEM OF THE PACIFIC. THE GENEVA CONFERENCE. Press Association—Copyright. (Received 9.15 a.m.) Sydney, August 11. The Sun newspaper, in an article on the “White Australia’’ policy, states that the question whether th e principle of the policy of a “White Austra. lia“ is in jeopardy must finally be answered by the end of the year at the conference in Geneva, when the Australian mandate in the Pacific is promulgated. The paper states: The secret diplomacy of these precludes the public from knowing all that happens between the Chancelleries, but there is the very best reason for stating that Japan very decidedly upon several occasions endeavoured to render the Wh'te Austra’ia polry abortive, and that she will undoubtedly attempt to destroy it again a,f Geneva, where the policy may he canvassed in a far more detached academic spirit. There will be a greater number of votes, wh'ch may swing for or against Australia, ard orce the decision is rrached, Australia must cither submit or break away from the League of Nations. The Sun states that unless Ministers are able honestly to affirm that the integrity of the White Australia policy will nott be upset at Geneva, a delegation should be despatched to Geneva to urge the claims of the White Australia policy.
