Charles William Groves, a member of ilie 13rd Reinforcements, pleaded guihy at the Magistrate's Court this morning to going through a form of marriage wiih Pearl Alice Wring, when he was already married to Eva Phoebe Rossiter. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. I . _ THE EDUCATION QUESTION. Per Pres« Association. Wellington, September 18. The Wellington Education Board to-day decided, in view of the tendency towards centralised control by the Department, to arrange a Dominion conference of education boards to discuss various matters in connection with the status of boards, uniformity of administrative methods, teachers' salaries, school buildings, grants, etc., convening a committee appointed to make necessary arrangements for the conference which will be held iu November. The board also passed a resolution that a committee be sot up to confer with the inspectors in regard to the appointment of teachers, such committee to consist of at least three members, to be elected by the board. THE AUCKLAND BURGLARIES. Per Press Association Auckland, September 18. ' A sixth arrest in connection' with the recent burglaries was made today, when Thomas William Gunn, aged 2£, brother of Patrick Gunn, previously charged, was apprehended on a charge of having received postal notes valued at £56 19s 9d and stamps valued at £ls 9s Bd, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Patrick'Guiin had, previously been remanded until Tuesday on a charge of having stolen from the New Lynn notes and stamps of the values mentioned. CORPORAL IN TROUBLE. Per Press Association. Wellington, September 18. Corporal William, Arthur d'Oridant of the Military Police, is being tried at Buckle Street Barracks on a charge of having made a false, accusation against his superior officer (Captain Gray) knowing the accusation to be false. / Captain Gray was examined at considerable length. He stated he had no alcoholic liquor during the, clay. On August 1 he took a launch on a patrol journey, and when getting off the launch slipped, and was steadied by d'Oridant. He took the corporal to the guardroom and had some conversation with him regarding his hours of duty on the previous''day. When he got home he found he had lost a minute-sheet given him by Captain Hill. The sheet was left on the table without an envelope, and could have been read by anybody. He rang up the guardroom, and had the paper sent to him. The minute referred to the delay in getting a crew on the night of August 1. Witness was instructed by Captain Hill to dismiss d'Oroiant, and sent the corporal a letter accordingly on August 2. Witness sent for d'Oridant on August 10, and asked if he had any charge to make. . The corporal replied : "None whatever."
