A London cablegram to-day states that the Earl of Lichfield, director of the Bank of Australasia, is dead, as the result of a gunshot wound. The Rev. G. Heighway, for 21 years pastor of the King Street Congregational Church, Dunedin, terminated his ministry there the other day, i having accepted a call to the Palmerston North Congregational Church. Mr Alexander Hatrick, AVangauuvs most progressive merchant,- died last evening, aged 60. Deceased was well known throughout commercial circles in the Dominion, the branches of his business extending all over the North Island,.,» Probably Was best' known in connection with the opening up and advertising .of the W an " ganui river as a •tourist route. He was mayor for many years, and vt was due to his foresight that the gasworks were municipalised, trams established, and many other important works carried out.
