RETURNED SOLDIERS' RE-UNION.

MIDHIRST HALL, TO-MORROW. At the Defence Office, Stratford, last evening, in response to advertisement calling a meeting of returned soldiers for the purpose of considering the holding of a social re-union, there war. an attendance of sixteen and Mr W. Power was voted to the chair. [it opening the meeting, the Chairman said the main ohject was to get a fair proportion of returned soldiers together with a view to holding a social at which something definite would he done in the matter of forming a Club. He advised them not to deal with the Club side of the proceedings that evening, but to confine themselves to the • formation of a branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Associaton. A very necessary factoi to remember was that they were represented on the body in charge oi the district fund, which was raised and being administered for the bene- , fit of wounded soldiers and their dependents. ' The greater the numbei of clubs or branches the better representation they would get and tin more opportunity they would have o shedding new light on what was done with the funds, and of seeing . that the object for which the funds were subscribed was being attained He referred to the'benefits accruing from the formation of a branch in tin district, and eventually he mover. that.the necessary steps be taken wit] a view to forming a Stratford brand of the New Zealand Returned Sol diers' Association.

l£ was decided to hold a re-union to take the form of a smoke concert in the Midhirst Town Hall to-morrow fThursday) evening, commencing at 8 o'clock, the Mayor of Stratford to •preside, and Mr W. Power to be deputy-chairman. The following general committee was appointed to control the re-union: Messrs C. Barker J. Enwright and J. Bainbridge (Midhirst}, C. S. Kelly, C. Rea, W. Power and T. J. Sheahan (Stratford).

A sub-committee consisting of Messrs W. Power, C. Pea and C. S. Kelly was appointed to make enquiries re the formation of brand) of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers -Association, and that the question of the date of holding a further meeting to receive the report be decided at the re-union. Mr C. Pea was appointed secretary pro. tern. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to Mrs. Enwright, of the Midhirst Hotel, for her offer to supply supper and to Messrs J. Enwright, J Bainbridge and C. Mahoney for their initial steps in regard to holding the reunion. Mr Heal offered to supply tAvo cars for conveying the guests to Midhirst, and Mr Brough agreed to supply the necessary benzine, both of whom were thanked by the meeting. As far as possible, all arrangements in connection with the social were dealt with, and judging by the enthusiasm nf those present the gathering on Thursday evening should he very successful in every way.
