The annual meeting of the News-

paper Proprietors' Association opened at Wellington on Monday evening and was continued yesterday. Mr P. Selig (Christchurch Press) in the chair. The President in his opening address referred to the war, and expressed a wish that peace would: speedily be brought about with honor to our colors. He reviewed the work: of the association for the past year,' and referred to the deaths of Mr Gothard, who represented the Westport Times, Mr Gardiner, of the Rotorua Chronicle, Mr Lane, editor of the New Zealand Herald, Flight-Lieut. Leslie Brett, son of Mr Arthur Brett (Auckland Star), and Mr J. G. List, brother of Mr T. C. List (Taranaki News). A resolution of sympathy with the bereaved was carried by all standing. He then referred at length to the matter of paper supplies and the difficulty confronting the members in this connection. He also instanced

Officers were elected as follows: President, P. Selig; vice-president, F. E. Hymati; executive, H. Horton, L. Blundell, F. Pirani, G. Fenwick, and E. A. Jones (with power to add to the number, C. Earle, H. Brett, and J. Coombe being recommended); Advertising Committee, E. A. Jones, J. Coombe, W. C. Weston, R. Bell, P. Selig, and W. Blundell; Postal and Parliamentary Committee, L. BlunC. Earle, G. H. Dickson, F. Pirani; Labor and Awards Committee, F. Pirani, P. Bond, R, Bell, W. C. Weston, and A.'Sands; News Print and Paper Committee, G. Fenwick, L. Blundell, H. Horton, P. Selig, T. C. List, A. MeNicol, rind H. V. Duigan • secretary and treasurer, L. J. Berry; auditor", R. B. Bell. Votes of thanks were passed to the Minister of Defence for an invitation to visit Trentham and Featherston; also to the president, secretary, and F. Pirani, the Association's representatives '.in labor and arbitration matters, aiitl to those institutions which extended their hospitality to visiting delegates.
