THEOSOPHICAL LECTURE.

“National War Karma, Past, Present and Future” was the title of Miss Christie’s lecture given last night in the Medina Tea Rooms, Stratford. Some of the most noticeable points in the hour’s lecture am as follows:—Karina or the Law of Cause and Effect is eternal, all-em-bracing and unerring in its action; its activity is co-existent with manifestation, and affects each individual life as intimately and completely as if-it were the only one; therefore all that comes to us, all that is ours to-day. is the rebound upon us of our past activities as individuals, as nations, and as races. Nations and races are but individuals on a larger scale ; and with them as with each one of us, the present is the result of the past, and the future will be what we make it to-day. A nation is but an enlarged individual; the units composing it boar the same relative value to it as a whole, as do the cells of one’s body to the body. A nation is as a cell in the body of the universe, but is an important organ in the body of a planet. With this in mind, look at what Germany has done to the body of Europe to-day. Europe the home of the leading races of the civilised world using its wonderful scientific knowledge, its organising power, its courage and endurance, and its vast wealth to kill the bodies of the flower of its humanity, lay waste its cities and beautiful pastoral lands, destroy its art treasures and plunge the whole world into an agony of sorrow, terror, and bereavement—a war of Christian Nations who have dragged into it a few of the so-called heathen. Why is this?. We have not underI stood that, this law of cause and ef(fect is the law of God’s Being and mij less we conform to it we must pay j the penalty—we and none else. We, not knowing this, have not learped the lessons of the past; we were in jthe last great wars, and cataclysms that destroyed the civilisations of Atlantis, Egypt India, Greece and jßome—these all fell losing their place of power in the world, and in the case jof Atlantis losing the entire civilisajtion so that the advanced egos passing from it to the higher race had to begin all over again, though the inherent memory of it helped them over the old ground more quickly than in the first instance. That and the loss of its best soldiers‘was the war Karma of Nations in the past. The present is linked to the past because we are the same poeple who fought then, the 1 memory of victory is in the subconscious mind of the Prussian and he can- ! not yet believe that Might is not ißight, and that he' will he defeated, for the dark side won in Atlantis. We have the memory of defeat spurring us of the Allies to bring victory for I the nations whose ideals are strength to protect the weak, and to keep our word of honour, and. live universal brotherhood. Brothers, get a promise of Home Rule for India with its 300,000,000 of British subjects; protect it as you are protecting Belgium, and you will end the war quickly. India offers 20,000,000 fighters in exchange for the privileges of citizenship. .Choose and -make a glorious future not only for Europe but for the world. 1 A brief but interesting outline of the main characteristics of several of the leading nations engaged in the war, and an exhortation to individual pure living and tolerance to the reli- : oious beliefs of others closed the lecture.
