AMUSEMENTS.

SCOTTISH PATRIOTIC EFFORT. The “Gatherin’ o’ the Clans” in Broadway on Saturday resulted in a big success in aid of the Patriotic Funds. The promoters had a shop on each side of the street and a platform on the road side and passers-by hardly ever escaped without being pressed to buy a tartan badge, button bole, or ticket in tbe *art unions. The marts were stocked with heaps of good things, which found a ready sale. The art unions have not yet been completed, and all the concert tickets 'have not been collected so that there will he a good round sum to come in yet, and it is estimated that the total will reach well over £2OO. A feature of Saturday’s work was the platform effort by Mcßae and chin, among whom special mention must he made of the dancing of Miss L. Reid and Master F. Reid. Mr Joe Wade was also very prominent in good work on the boards. The combined efforts of the above were most successful, securing from public contributions amounting to £sl 13s, which, it is stated, exceeded similar efforts at the New Plymouth Scotch day by about £ls. The Mayoress (Mrs J. W. McMillan) and Mrs Saugster were in charge of the. spebial mart, and were untiring in their efforts throughout the day. Assisted by willing helpers, they raised £55, and have some more to collect. The takings at the Patriotic Mart and Tea Rooms were good, Mesdames Ai. F. Grant and J. Petrie doing business to the extent of £2O 8s Bd. To date there has been banked £lßl} 16s 2d. The concert returns Avili be between £SO and £6O. • All persons holding monies from the sales of concert and dance tickets are asked to return same to Mr W. McDonald with their unsold tickets. The art unions will lie drawn on Saturday evening next, and results duly announced. The Secretary wishes all accounts against the Society to he sent in at once, either to Mr W. MacDonald or himself.

i Tlie Scottish Society as a whole deserve the heartiest congratulations lor the success of their effort on behalf of the sick and wounded soldiers. I<> particularise would he invidious in this fcase, where so many put their shoulu- ! ers to the wheel, but no one will begrudge the special mention of the two 1 McDonalds (F. J. and AV .) in their reI spective roles of secretary and trea- ' surer. Their services were untiring (and invaluable, and they have yet a 1 good deal to do before the numerous items in connection with the affair are I completed and a balance-sheet is j ready for presentation to the Society.
