THE BIG EVENT. Entries for the Show to he held on the 29th and 30th inst, close on Thursday, 23rd (to-morrow). Intending exhibitors are reminded to send their entries in at once First-class accommodation has been provided for both horses and cattle, and all cattle will he grazed on the Showgrounds during the show. Particularly strong classes are anticipated ini the horse and cattle sections. With regard to cattle, the aim of the Association is to make the show the greatest Dairyman’s Show in the Dominion, and without doubt, some very fine pedigree cattle will be exhibited, so that all classes in the pedigree section should be well filled. Farmers, who may not have pedigree animals, can help the Association by exhibiting in the grade or crossbred section. Classes have been provided to suit exhibits of all ages, and liberal prize-money has been allotted, including a number of silver cups. In the horse section, the classes are very varied, including the heavy draught down to the smallest pony, there are also classes for carriage horses and hacks and hunters. In the hunting competition, a class has been inserted and will be open only to members of a recognised Hunt Club. This class should have a very full entry list.
Many special prizes have been added, and the whole prize-list is on the generous scale. Recognising the great improvements effected on the Showground since the last show, this should induce a large Humber of exhibitors to enter their stock for the coming show. In the Home Industries’ Section, there should be a large number of entries. Some good prizes are offered for home-made bread and also cakes and pastry. For sowing and fancy work, good entries-, cave. > expected. In the Art section, for the best wood carving and painting, there is likely to be some good -exhibits, and the competition should produce talented exhibitors. In the Dog section, it must he re* menibered that r> r.dw judge has been appointed, and some gcod dogs are likely to he benched, especially of the sporting variety. English setters at this show are always well represented, while collies (all varieties) and Old English sheep dogs are well catered for. Locally, bulldogs are likely to be benched in good numbers, also fox terriers. Airdales have a good footing in the district, and there, should he some keen competition in this class. Irish terriers will he strong in numbers, in fact, the show is likely to lie graced by all representative breeds.
