(Received 8 a.m.) London, June IS. | The Times’ Parliamentary correspondent says that Mr McKenna’s first budget, which promises to be the ■ most terrific instrument in our fiscal history, will probably include a surtax on war profits, which will increase the income-tax to an extent such as was never dreamt of a year ago. The Archbishop of York’s committee, which investigated the alleged increase of illegitimacy owing to the war. reports that the rumours are without foundation, though much giddiness and foolish excitability among young girls gave cause for anxiety on account of the prevailing low moral standard.
