Mr X. J. King was re-elected chairman of directors of the Stratford Cooperative Building Society last night.
Mr Kasper, of Rahotu, has bought the freehold of the Eltham Hotel, and will take over possession from Mr Leatham in a month.
Mr R. L. Mellroy has been nominated by the Taranaki Teachers' Institute as non-official member of the executive of the Xew Zealand Educational Institute.
Mr.J. J. Staples, who was for some years on the staff of the Daily Xews, and at one time stationed at Stratford, was yesterday presented with a travelling bag and a piece of plate suitably inscribed, by Mr T. C. List, on behalf of the Daily News staff. Mr
Staples is taking up the position of South Island representative of McLeojL and Slade Ltd
At the quarterly meeting of the Hibernians last night, the following motion was moved by Pro. Phil Brennan and seconded by Bro. Magee:— "We learn with regret of the demise of Mr Laurence Geraghty, father of*our esteemed President (Mr T. I. Geraghty), and we tender our sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives in their sad bereavement; and that this meeting stands adjourned as a mark of respect to his memory." The motion was passed in silence, all members standing.
