A PRISONER RECAPTURED. (Per Press Association) Gisborne, September 24. A man named Burnecle, alias Pearce, who, at the just concluded sessions of the Supreme Court, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment, and four years’ reformative treatment, and who escaped from gaol on Wednesday, was recaptured on Saturday evening in tuc vicinity of Wacrengaokura, 27 miles from Gisborne. FUNERAL OF LATE COLONEL HAWKINS. Christchurch, September 24. The funeral of tho late Colonel Hawkins took place this afternoon at the Papanui Cemetery. The funeral was essentially a military one, and was attended by a large number of Territorials and Volunteers. General God ley and members of the head-quar-ters staff were also present. The service at the graveside was conducted by Chaplain Captain Bean, at ,the close of which a volley, was fired and the “Last Post” sounded. The funeral aroused much interest, and large crowds of the public lined either side of the Papa mi i Road to watch tho cortege pass.
