PRESENTATION TO MR. AND MRS. J. H. CORBETT.

A representative gathering of resi dents of East and Skinner Roads las' night paid a surprise visit to the re SKlence pt Mr. -J. H. Corbett, Las-, Road, ’’whP has disposed;of his farm and who leaves in a few days to gi into occupation of a farm on Sinai'.. Road, New Plymouth. Mr. Corbett who is a native of Taranaki, lias beeroh East Road for the past four years and previously held farms at Biro Road and Lowgartli, having spent most of his life in Taranaki. After a pleasant evening had beer spent Mr. J. Bonner, on behalf oi neighbours, presented Mr. tand Mrs. Corbett with an elegant silver teh-pot Ho said Mr. Corbett had been an intimate neighbour of bis, and a bettei neighbour could not be found. If anybody wanted a good’turn done, Mr. Corbett was always willing td do hie best, and when he had said that hi (Mr. Bonner) did not think much more required to bo said. They had all known Mr. Corbett well, and the largf attendance that evening clearly indicated the respect in which he war held. He concluded by wishing Mr. and Mrs. Corbett long life, and pros pority. " Mr. Corbett was considerably affected in responding. He thanked thosr present for their handsome gift, and said that for his part he had never lived among a more kindly lot of neighbours. Anything he bad done for hi? neighbours was a labour of love tr him. He hoped now and again to sec hie. old neighbours at his new home and "promised them a hearty welcome.

Those present spent the evening pleasantly in cards and other games and a large amount of bigpipe music was supplied by Messrs. J. Wade and A. Sangster.
