commercial DUNEDIN MARKET REPORT

Weather Delays Spring Sowings

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, October 5. Broken weather during the week has delayed the preparation of the ground for spring sowing of wheat and oats, and any further delay will mean that there will be no more sowings of wheat this year. Apart from a limited demand for seed oats, there is no inquiry and the market generally is lifeless. Undergrade lines are difficult to place. North Island merchants appear to have ample supplies of all varieties of oats, and in consequence there is not the shipping taking place. In sympathy with oats, the chaff market is dull and supplies are more than equal to immediate requirements. Sufficient supplies of potatoes are coming to hand fox - this market, but there is no surplus for shipment to the North Island.

The market for high-testing lines of cex-tified and uncex*tified ryegrass continues to be firm, and there is a ready outlet fox - all seeds of this description. The Montgomery red and broad red clover demand is also sustained at recent rates.

Little interest is being displayed at the moment in chewings fescue, crested dogstail, ox - browntop, but exports of all these lines have been considerable, and the quantities held in store are not large. Cocksfoot is neglected, and the quantity held is in excess of present requirements.
