BRITAIN’S LIGHT FLEET CARRIERS

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, August 27. The Royal Navy’s new light fleet carrier, of which the Colossus, the Glory, the Venerable, the Vengeance and others are at present serving in the Far East, were especially built to augment the large fleet of carriers for the war in the Pacific. They are a smaller version of fleet carriers and have a displacement of 14,000 tons and a speed of 25 knots. They carry 33 aircraft. The new carriers are able to operate with the fleet, and are ideal for convoy protection. They are airconditioned and insulated against tropical heat. They also carry de-icing apparatus for cold regions.
