Mr A. C. Laing, secretary of the Otago-SouthlanH division of the National Party, arrived in Invercargill by the express last night. Mr W. J. Butler, South Island organizer for the Labour Party, is visiting the Mataura electorate. He is to address a meeting of members and supporters of,,the party at Edendale tonight, and this will be followed by similar meetings at Gore tomorrow night, at Tapanui on Monday and at Waipahi on Tuesday. Mr Butler has not yet made definite arrangements for visits to other Southland electorates. A decision to send a letter of greeting to Mr James McPhail, the oldest attending member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Gore, was made at the annual meeting of the church. Mr McPhail, who was an elder of the Waikaka Valley church for 60 years, joined St. Andrew’s Church when he retired to Gore. He is now 91 years of age. Guests at the Grand Hotel include Miss I. and Mr S. J. Sievers (Wanganui), Mr R. Hughes, Mr and Mrs A. E. Greensmith (Christchurch), Messrs B. Bassett, D. C. Burgess, J. Macdonald, D. Martin, C. Langbein, A. C. Laing (Dunedin) and H. Wieson (Gore).
