Cloudy and Cold (Special) WELLINGTON. August 9. Followng is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m. tomorrow: A depression is east of New Zealand and another is approaching the North Island from the west. Moderate to variable winds. Cloudy and cold, with scattered mist or drizzle in the east. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was warm, calm and clear. The weather at one o’clock this morning was cold, calm and overcast. The barometer reading was 29.84 inches (falling). The Tides.—High water, Bluff, 3.39 a.m., 4.04 p.m.; Invercargill, 4.18 a.m., 4.45 p.m.; Riverton, 2.39 a.m., 3.04 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 2.48 a.m., 3.13 p.m. The Sun— Rises, 7.57 a.m.; sets, 5.48 p.m. RAINFALL (From our observer at the airport, by courtesy of the Public Works Department).—No rain was recorded for the 24 hours ended at 5 p.m. yesterday. . .
