CHARGES OF ARSON
Labourer Remanded For Medical Report (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 9. “No, thank you,” replied Ronald Dempsey Crook, aged 33, a labourer, when asked if he had anything to say before being sentenced by Mr Justice Cornish in the Supreme Court this morning on four charges of arson, two of house-breaking and three of burglary. The prisoner recently admitted setting fire to four houses in Auckland. “I want to get a report on this man’s mental condition,” said the judge. The Crown representative, Mr Cleal, said that some reports had been made and he handed these to the judge. Mr Justice Cornish said that he would like something from the superintendent of a mental hospital. He remanded Crook for two weeks to enable him to be examined by a mental hospital superintendent.
