Clothing Drive for UNRRA The response of the residents of Bluff to UNRRA’S appeal for clothing for the distressed areas of Europe was excellent. The town was canvassed by the Sea Scouts, assisted by several residents with cars, and a large quantity of garments was collected and deposited at the central depot, the Red Cross rooms. The clothing, with one or two exceptions, is in excellent order and members of the Red Cross and the women’s Patriotic Knitting Circle and many others, sorted and packed the goods, which were forwarded to the depot of the Lady Galway Guild in Invercargill. In all 18 large cartons were sent containing over 1000 garments. These include 910 garments from the special appeal and the rest made up of boxes packed by the Red Cross. ARBOR DAY.— Under the auspices of the Bluff Harbour Board, a tree planting ceremony was held on Bluff Hill on Arbor Day, the children of the two schools being present. The speakers were the chairman of the Harbour Board, Mr L. W. Spencer, the mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick, the chairman, of the school committee, Mr G. Muir, and the headmaster, Mr R. Moir. Under the direction of .Mr A. E. Budd 200 pinus insignis trees were planted by the children. Miss Margaret Goomes thanked the board on behalf of the school for its invitation to them to take part in the ceremony.

DOMAIN BOARD.— At the annual meeting of the Bluff Domain Board, Mr L. W. Spencer, chairman, presided over the following: The Mayor of Bluff, Mr N. W, McGorlick, Mr C. B. Tapley and Mr A. E. Budd. Mr D. E. S. Mason and the secretary, Mr H. A. Ferguson, were also present. The annual report and statement for the year ended March 31, 1945, was approved and adopted. In discussing the tree-planting for the current year, members stated that in order to develop the domain as much tree planting as possible should be carried out and authority was given to spend up to £BO for this purpose and on cutting necessary fire-breaks. In view of the need for funds, it was decided to apply to the Bluff Harbour Board and to the Bluff Borough Council for an increased grant and also to approach the Government, as partowner, for a Government grant.
