HOUSES FOR BIG FAMILIES
GOVERNMENT POLICY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 8. The Government provision of State rental houses for large families was demonstrated recently when houses in the Hutt Valley were allotted eight families, which included 15 parents and 58 children of varying ages. “The provision of suitable homes for large families has always been advocated by this Government,” said the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, making this announcement tonight. Accommodation would be allotted as quickly as it could be built, Mr Nash said. The families concerned in this instance came from various parts of Wellington and the Hutt Valley, and had been living in very congested circumstances. The new environment would come as a reward to these excellent New Zealanders and would give them an opportunity to bring up their children in more suitable surroundings.
