Fielded Grenades Like Cricket Balls (Rec. 7 p.m.) COLOMBO, July 21. India’s 31st Victoria Cross of the war was won by a Gurkha, Rifleman Lachiman Gurang, virtually by cricket with hand grenades in a post surrounded by the Japanese for three days and two nights and pelted with grenades. Rifleman Gurang fielded two and returned them, but the third exploded as he picked it up, blowing his hand away and severely wounding his face and body. He earned on for another four hours, firing with his rifle at .the oncoming enemy.
