SOUTHLAND TEAMS SELECTED After the trial games on Saturday afternoon the sole selector, Mr C. J. K. Lythgoe, selected the following hockey teams to represent Southland against Otago at Dunedin on August 11: SENIOR Goalkeeper, N. C. Poole (Collegiate); left full-back, J. S. McClure (Collegiate); right full-back, R. S. Sherlock (Collegiate); left half, R. W. Bead e (High School); centre half, R-_ G. Puling (Civil Service, captain); right half, W. H. Semmens (Central); left wing, J. F. Pettigrew (Civil Service); inside left, G. J. Calvert (Collegiate); centre forward, T. E. Hennessy (Central); inside right, W. J. Sinclair (Collegiate); right wing, H. R. Aitchison (High School), Emergencies: Backs, J. H. Melrose (Collegiate); forwards, S. H. Mason (Collegiate). JUNIOR Goalkeeper, G. K. JUNIOR GAMES Because of the representative trial matches no senior games in the Southland Men’s Hockey Associations competitions were played on Saturday ana the only competition games played were those in the junior grade. The weather was dull and cold and> the grounds were heavy. The following table shows the position of the teams in the junior grade after the games on Saturday:— Goals Ch.

High School A defeated High School B by three goals to nil. Chandler, Haase and Henry scored the goals. Mr A. E. Dakin was the umpire. Technical College A won from Technical College C by defeault. Technical College B defeated High School D by seven goals to nil, the goals being scored by Weavers (2), Cockroft (2), Nutter, McGregoi- and Clyma. Mr E. S. Hobson was the umpire. High School C defeated Murihiku by two goals to nil. Broad and Downes scored for School. Messrs B. C. Tuson and R. S. Morriso.n were the umpires. WOMEN’S - MATCHES The senior women’s hockey game between Ex-High and Collegiate, played at Queen’s Park on Saturday, was full of interest and was won by Collegiate just on time. The final scores were Collegiate 7, Ex-High 6. M. Howie (3), M. Sinclair (2), E. Sinclair and E. Donaldson scored for the winners and L. Fraser (3), J. Wallace, J. Gray and C. Greenfield for Ex-High. Mr G. Hope was umpire. The junior game resulted in a win for Ex-High, who defeated Technical College by one goal to nil. Mesdames M. Howie and J. Wallace were the umpires.
