Fair and Cold
(Special) WELLINGTON, July 28. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m. tomorrow:— An intense anti-cyclone covers New Zealand. A trough of low pressure is over the western Tasman. Winds light to moderate and variable, northerlies predominating. The weather fair to cloudy and cold.
The weather in Invercargill on Saturday was cold and cloudy with a light westerly wind. Yesterday it was cloudy in the morning, but in the afternoon the sky cleared and bright sunshine prevailed. The weather at one o’clock this morning was cold, calm and clear. The barometer reading was 30.36 inches (rising). The Tides.—High water, Bluff, 6.04 a.m., 6.40 p.m.; Invercargill, 6.45 a.m., 7.21 p.m.; Riverton, 5.04 a.m., 5.40 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 5.13 a.m., 5.49 p.m. The Sun. — Rises 8.12 a.m.; sets 5.36 p.m. RAINFALL (from our observer at the airport, by courtesy of the Public Works Department).—For the 48 hours ended at 5 p.m. yesterday 25 points of rain were recorded. Fifteen points were recorded in the 24 hours ended at 5 p.m. on Friday.
