PARLIAMENT TO RESUME

OFFICIAL OPENING TODAY (Special) WELLINGTON, June 26. After being in recess since the middle of last December, Parliament will assemble again tomorrow afternoon with the official opening by the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall. By . meeting at this time of the year Parliament is reverting to the prewar practice of beginning the sessions about the third week in June. Tomorrow’s proceedings will be confined to the official opening ceremony and transaction of formal business by the House of Representatives. The Imprest Supply Bill will be introduced on Thursday, and in view of the wide latitude for. debate such a measure provides it is expected that members will take this early opportunity to raise a number of questions of wide public interest, including manpower and the future role of the New Zealand Division, coal and electricity supplies and the Government’s action in appointing revision authorities to deal with the cases of military defaulters. As urgency is always taken for the Imprest Supply Bill a late sitting is generally anticipated. Tributes to legislators and former legislators who have died since the House was last in session will be taken on Friday, after which the House will adjourn until Wednesday of next week. The Address-in-Reply debate will be opened that, night. A caucus of members of the Labour Party was held today and one will probably be held by the National Party later in the week.

LABOUR PARTY .CAUCUS MR FRASER’S WORK AT UNCIO PRAISED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 26. A caucus of the Parliamentary Labour Party was held today. The acting Prime Minister, Mr Nash, presided. Resolutions were passed expressing sympathy with Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo, in the death of his wife, with Mr P. Neilson, M.P. for Dunedin Central, in the death of his wife, with Mrs Munro in the death of her husband, Mr J. W. Munro, M. P. for Dunedin North, and with Mrs Findlay, in the death of Mr F. Findlay, who was M.P. for Hamilton. Reference was also made to Government members at present on the sick list, Mr Webb (Minister of Mines) and Messrs R. Coulter (Raglan), C. H. Chapman (Wellington North) and T. P. Paikea (Northern Maori). Good wishes were extended to them and the hope was expressed that they would soon recover their health and be back again in their places in the House. Mr Nash also stated that the caucus expressed pride in the great work done by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, at the United Nations conference at San Francisco on behalf of all peace-loving nations, and in particular as the representative of New Zealand.
