NO CRIMINAL CASES FOR TRIAL
JUDGE PRESENTED WITH WHITE GLOVES Since tire last session of the Supreme Court in Invercargill, the Southland district has been free from crime, and when the quarterly session of the Supreme Court opened yesterday morning it was reported that there were no bills for presentation on the criminal calendar. In accordance with custom, his Honour, Mr Justice Kennedy, who presided, was presented with a pair of white gloves. “I have the honour to report that there are no bills for presentation on the criminal calendar,” said the registrar (Mr A. E. Reynolds) at the opening of the session. “As symbolic of this districts’s freedom from crime, I would ask your Honour to accept'this pair of white gloves.” He was glad to hear there were no criminal cases for presentation, said his Honour. It was the second time recently that the criminal calendar for the district was a clear one. He congratulated the district of Southland upon the absence of serious crime.
