RAID ON GROUNDED PLANES
New Zealand Airman’s Success (R.N.Z.A.F. Official News Service) LONDON, April 10. Dropping flares over an enemy airfield along the Baltic Coast recently, a Mosquito pilot, Flying Officer R. E. le Long, D.F.C. of Auckland, made six attacks, diving from 1000 feet to ground level. “A Ju. 88 burst into flames and of five other aircraft which were hit, one ME. 410 broke in half and' others were left smoking,” said Flying Officer le Long. “The whole area was covered in smoke when we left. My aircraft was hit in the wing and in the drop tank by light flak, but we had no other damage.” Another pilot on the same raid, Flight Lieutenant H. Craft, D.F.C., of Cambridge, also reported successes. He scored damaging hits on eight other enemy planes.
