SERIOUS DAMAGE IN HALIFAX
Riots On Victory Day HALIFAX, May 9. Scenes of destruction unequalled since an ammunition ship exploded at Halifax last war greeted the city this morning after the victory riots which also occurred in smaller measure at Dartmouth, across the harbour from Halifax, Kentville, 50 miles away, and Sydney, in the Cape Breton mining district. Some naval ratings described the riots as protests against the way they were treated by Halifax landlords and merchants. Riots also occurred in the Montreal theatre district on Tuesday night. The mob smashed liquor store windows, damaged 30 trams and smashed doors and windows.
