HEAVY GOING AT WINGATUI

COURTDRESS JUMPS WELL (Special) DUNEDIN, December 17. The outside of the course proper was again available for fast work at Wingatui on Saturday morning, but proceedings were uninteresting. The going was on the heavy side following the drenching rain of the past day or two. Buckle broke away over three lengths in front of Gay Lancer at the three furlongs, but waited on her companion in the straight and they finished together. This was the first run along that Buckle has had since coming back into work about a month ago and the time, 44sec, could have been much improved. Minstrel Light covered the same ground in 42, travelling well within himself. Mossburn led Lord Dundonald with Bonnie Chela, easing up at the finish of six furlongs, the last five taking 1.11 1-5. On the inside grass Bath Slipper was not allowed to extend herself at any stage of six furlongs run in 1.21. Courtdress (W. Shand) jumped three hurdles satisfactorily for a novice. The majority of the other work consisted of from half to three-quarter pace and those allotted such tasks included Astros, Arabian Night, Plutocrat, Desert Trek, Maharajah, Nightcalm, Timber Topper, Monetary, Night Lancer, Battle Robe, Atreus, Amorlad, Lord Roland, Kohara, Lord Nuffield, Miss Hula, Lance Wing and Bridgehead. The connections of Nightcalm and Timber Topper are dissatisfied with the weights allotted these horses in the Warrington Hurdles and they have been scratched.
