APPEAL AGAINST DECISION
PRICE SET BY LAND SALES COMMITTEE The first appeal against a decision of the Southland Land Sales Committee has been lodged by Mr N. L. Watson, solicitor for a vendor, and will be heard before the Land Sales Court. The appeal may take the form of a rehearing before the court and further evidence that was not made available to the committee may be heard. The property is a farm of 92 acres at Makarewa. The consideration price was reduced by £7OO to £2500 by the Land Sales Committee. The vendor claims that the price he has asked for tire farm is justified on the values placed on properties in the immediate vicinity. The Crown’s valuation on the property is £1978, and the price fixed by the committee is midway between this and the figure asked by the vendor. The reduction is the biggest the committee has made up till now, the previous biggest reduction being £4s°. which was not contested. The date and place of the hearing have not yet been fixed. The court, over which Mr Justice Finlay presides, Generally sits in Wellington and it is unlikely that it will travel to Invercargill to hear one case. It may be suggested to counsel that to have the matter disposed of at an early date he engage a Wellington agent to conduct the appeal a.nd have it heard in Wellington, i
