WINTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

The final meeting of the Winton Borough Council for the year was held on Tuesday night. The Mayor, Mr N. Metzger, and Crs Stenhouse, Mcllwrick, Crosland, Smart and Gill were present. The Mayor extended a welcome to the new members, Crs Smart and Gill. Cr Mcllwrick was appointed delegate to the forthcoming rehabilitation conference in Invercargill early in the new year. A petition from a number of ratepayers asking for the removal of several trees on the Great North Road was left over to the next meeting. It was decided to advertise a clean-up day for December 20. The Mayor reported that an enthusiastic meeting had decided to form a cricket club and it was agreed to cut the grass in the inner ring of the recreation ground. A discussion took place on the gorse and broom nuisance on several properties in the borough, also on hedges encroaching on to footpaths. Residents are to be notified to have them cut back to the boundary. The Mayor extended to councillors the season’s greetings and thanked them and the town clerk for their support through the year.
