GERMAN LINE BROKEN NEAR FAENZA
Successful Attack By Canadians (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 13. The British Bth Army has smashed the main German defence line between Faenza and the sea. Canadian troops made a new crossing of the Lamone river and deepened the Allied bridgehead by 2000 yards. The Canadians attacked under a creeping barrage. Leaving their assault craft, they charged the enemy defences with bayonets. Railways north of Faenza have also been cut by British troops. Enemy aircraft have become active over the whole sth Army front. They are dropping incendiary and antipersonnel bombs and strafing along lines of communication, says the correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Agency in Italy. German artillery opened up a heavy barrage in the central sector, more than 700 rounds falling in 15 minutes. There were several patrol clashes and a smallscale German counter-attack was driven off.
