PENSACOLA AND ESSAY

HORSES LEAVE FOR AUCKLAND (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 12. Some of the Riccarton horses which are to race in the holidays provided interest in the track work this morning. Lord Advocate pleased while doing six furlongs on the plough in 1.16 4-5, the first three in 37 3-5. Justitia, who will accompany him south, did a working gallop over seven furlongs. Foxhaven and Chicago, who were not out for time, ran their last half-mile in 52sec. Foxleap sprinted the last three furlongs of seven in 38sec. Double Cross and Rout reeled off five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. C. Emerson will race only this pair at southern meetings and during their absence the two-year-old Avonbridge will have a rest. Working on the trial grass track Lex ran seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5, his stable mate registering 1.32 2-5. In each case the last half-mile was done easily in 53sec. Competitor, a smart Foxbridge two-year-old, dashed over half a mile in 49 4-5, another two-year-old, Princess Anne,, taking 50sec, which was equalled by Scottish Lad. The best half-mile on the grass 49 l-ssec was done by St. Joachim and Dash o’ Dink. G. RIDGWAY’S PLANS There has been a change in the plans for G. Ridgway’s pair. Only Dash o’ Dink will go north, leaving tomorrow night to compete at Otaki as a preliminary to Manawatu and Wairarapa. St. Joachim will do his holiday racing at Wingatui and Waikouaiti. Kindergarten and Golden Souvenir were quite sound after their pace work on the plough, and L. J. Ellis hopes to race them at the Dunedin meeting. Golden Souvenir is an acceptor for the Dimedin Cup, but Kindergarten is engaged only in the James Hazlett Gold Cup. Ellis left here with the two horses tonight on his way to Waikouaiti, where they will finish their preparation on the beach. Pensacola and Essay went north tonight on their way to Auckland, where they will do their holiday racing. Pensacola, after an easy time since he won the Derby and the Canterbury Cup, is in good order to finish off his preparation for the Great Northern Derby. Essay, with a win and a second in her two starts, should race well in two-year-old events at Ellerslie. It is probable that F. Holmes will have to give Fiery Knight a spell, as he was lame after his work this morning. A. B. Stove is in some doubt over the holiday programme of Trench Law. He is suffering from the effects of a mishap and the extent of his injuries will not be known for a few days.
