REFUSE COLLECTION IN CITY
NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR HOLIDAYS To overcome the difficulty caused by missing the collection of refuse in the city on public holidays, the City Council has decided on a new arrangement as follows: —Collections for December 25 and 26 to be made on December 27, for January 1 and 2 on January 3, for
Good Friday and Easter Saturday on the previous Thursday and for all other holidays on the day following. To compensate for the extra mileage covered in doing the holiday collections, it is proposed to give each man an additional week to his annual leave, making three weeks instead of two. In reporting on the arrangement at the meeting of the council last night, the city inspector, Mr R. Bleakley, stated that because of the difficulty of prevailing upon householders to put out refuse a day earlier, the Good FridayEaster Saturday proposal was not good, but the men were not prepared to work on Easter Saturday on any terms,
