AIRMAN AWARDED D.F.C.
Acting Flight Lieutenant W. Strathern Acting Flight Lieutenant William Strathern, of Invercargill, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, according to advice received by his grandparents, Mr and Mrs E. Shieffelbein, of Collingwood. Acting Flight Lieutenant Strathern, who is 24, was educated at the North School and the Southland Technical College. Before enlisting in the Air Force about three years ago, he was employed as an electrician by Parkinson, Ltd. After training in New Zealand, he left for Britain in January 1943. He has since been serving in the European theatre. He was formerly a member of the Waikiwi Tennis Club.
