VOLUNTARY SERVICE FAVOURED

OTTAWA, November 5.

The Minister of Defence, General A. G. McNaughton, in a speech favoured the maintenance of the long traditions of voluntary army service and added that reinforcement figures show that Canada can safely count on some short period before the danger of the situation becomes acute. “Now as the need is known our men and women will come forward to serve and rally in support of their gallant comrades overseas,” said the General. The Canadian Press points out that the speech confirmed the belief that General McNaughton’s view of the voluntary system coincided with the Government’s policy which gave rise to the, Cabinet crisis resulting in Colonel J. L. Ralston’s resignation.
