PROTEST BY PROGRESS LEAGUE

Southland Omitted From

Lancaster’s Itinerary

A strong protest against the omission of Invercargill and other Southland towns from the itinerary of the Royal Air Force Lancaster bomber will be made to the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) by the Southland Progress League. A copy of the letter of protest to Mr Jones will be sent to Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P. “In spite of our representations to the Minister we have been turned down,” said the president of the league (Mr A. W. Jones) yesterday. The omission of Southland from the Lancaster’s itinerary was another illustration of the lack of consideration which was invariably shown to the province, he stated. It was apparent that not much thought had been devoted to the arrangement of the itinerary. By visiting Queenstown the aircraft had touched the fringe of Southland and when the immense distances that the plane had already travelled were considered it was regrettable that the plane had been unable to spend a comparatively short time flying over Southland. ,
