Mr J. D. Pigou, who has been manager of the Invercargill branch of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., for the last five years, has been appointed manager of the bank’s branch at Hastings. He will leave Invercargill early next month. Mr Pigou will be replaced at Invercargill by Mr D. R. Matheson, who is at present manager of the Blenheim branch of the bank. Inspector J. B. Young, of Christchurch, will replace Inspector J. Carroll, who is retiring, as officer in charge of the Southland police district. This was announced in Wellington on Saturday. (Special.) In appreciation of his work for Wellington during his 13 years as Mayor, a presentation was made to Mr T. C. A. Hislop at a gathering arranged by a committee of representative citizens. Mr Hislop was the recipient of an oil painting by the New Zealand artist, Sydney Thompson, and a cheque. The amount was not announced, but it was for approximately £5OO. Mrs Hislop received a hand-painted Chippendale writing-desk and a stool, and there was a set of books for Miss Susan Hislop.

Guests at the Grand Hotel include Mr and Mrs K. McGregor (Auckland), Miss N. Lambie, Messrs J. E. Salmon (Wellington), C. Clark, R. Marshall, J. C. Pirrit (Christchurch), R. Challis and N. R. Macalister (Dunedin).
