OLGA’S CHOICE WINS DECISIVELY

HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP (Special). CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 23. Lyndon Lea set the pace in the Highweight Handicap, Olga’s Choice, Rahiri and Weld Cona following him to the straight, where Olga’s Choice moved up and won decisively. Gamble, though slow away, soon took the lead in the North Canterbury Handicap. Arctic Dawn followed him early, but dropped back to last after going three furlongs. Justitia challenged at the home turn with Arustra on the outside, while Palfrey came through on the rails. Gamble was beaten 100 yards from the post and Arustra beat Palfrey by half a length, Gamble being two lengths back with Justitia fourth. Arustra and Palfrey are ready for more good racing and Justitia will improve. ■

In Chancery set a strong pace in the Hororata Hack Handicap, but stopped when the straight was reached. Dash o’ Dink then took charge, but Falconbridge ran past him and stalled . off Burberry, who finished fast after losing ground at the start. Lord Advocate and All Night were in front from the start of the Dr T. A. Will Memorial Handicap. All Night dropped back three furlongs from home and though he finished well Lord Advocate beat him by a length, with Rex Maitland half a length back. The race, which was set down for seven furlongs and a-half, was started from the seven furlong barrier and the stewards ordered it to be run again after the last race. Lord Advocate was scratched, but as he had been in the hands of the starter his backers lost their money. All Night led out, but dropped back after three furlongs. Rex Maitland and Sally Lux led to the straight, where All

Night moved up and, getting through on the rails, beat Rex Maitland in the last stride. K. Nuttall rode All Night in the no race, but in the second start he was handled by C. H. Mackie, who had been on Lord Advocate earlier in the day. Old timers recall a hurdle race being run twice at Riccarton early this century through being started before the proper time and on that occasion there was a change of results the second time. Prince Leighon ran past Chicago at the end of a furlong in the Amberley Hack Handicap and then the positions were never altered. Authentic moved up in the straight to beat Cinderella easily for third. Good Friend and Prince Leighon are trained by F. Christmas, who had not won a race for a long time.
