GENERAL COMMITTEE OF A.A.
TWO NOMINATIONS FOR PRESIDENT
The following nominations have been received for positions on the general committee of the Automobile Association (Southland): — President.—Messrs S. C. K. Smith and D. A. Dunn. Vice-presidents (two). —Mr I. V. Wilson and Dr D. R. Jennings.
Committee Members. —Messrs C. Campbell, F. E. R. Booth, A. J. Campbell, J. D. Gilmore, M. M. Macdonald, J. S. Dick, R. F. Jones and Dr Stanley Brown.
Apart from the president and vicepresidents there are seven vacancies on the committee caused by the retirement of members in accordance with the rules. However, the number of vacancies to be filled and the number of candidates will depend on the elections for president and vice-presidents. If Mr Smith is defeated in the election for president he will become immediate past president with a right to a seat on the committee for the next two years. If Mr Dunn is defeated he will have the right to stand for election as vice-president, and if he is again defeated he will have the right to stand for election as an ordinary member of the committee. If there is an election for the two vice-presidents, and if Mr Wilson is defeated, he will have the right to stand as a committee member. Mr Dunn and Mr Wilson have this right because they are two of the nine members of the general committee retiring this year in accordance with the rules. On the other hand, Dr Jennings is one of the members of the general committee not required to retire this year and if he is defeated in the election for vicepresidents he will automatically remain on the committee.
The most that can be said at present is that there will be an election for the committee no matter what may be the result of the election for president or the possible election for vice-presi-dents.
The voting will take place at the annual general meeting of the association to be held on Monday night. There is no provision for proxy votes.
Of those nominated as committeemembers the following are retiring members of the committee:—Messrs C. Campbell, Booth, A. J. Campbell, Gilmore and Macdonald and Dr Stanley Brown.
