SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED
MATAURA.— A social was recently held at Mataura in honour of Privates M. Wilson and C. Irwin and Aircraftman R. J. Smith. Invercargill performers assisted with the concert programme. The guests were piped to the stage, where they were welcomed by the Mayor (Mr C. D. McConnell), the president of the Mataura branch of the R.S.A. (Mr F. H. Bryant) and the Rev. J. Badcock on behalf of the churches. The leader of the Invercargill party was Mr L. D. MacVicker. Items were given by Messrs N. Battersby and L. Adamson, Master D. McLeod, Misses Lilley, Curran and E. Perry and the Mataura Girl Guides. WRIGHTS BUSH— Mr G. McDonald presided over a large gathering in the Wright’s Bush Hall to welcome home Private P. S. Rodgers. The W.D.F.U. joined in the presentation.
