RAINFALL ABOVE AVERAGE

ROUGH WEATHER IN SEPTEMBER The weather in Invercargill during September was broken and unsettled. The month was, in fact, most unsatisfactory, particularly from the point of view of those with gardens. The rainfall was heavy, being well above the average taken over a number of years. The total fall for the month was 4.49 inches, compared with the . average of 3.27 inches for September. High winds were experienced during the month and there were many rough days. The first three days of the month were fine, but they were followed by 10 days of stormy weather. The weather for the remainder of the month was patchy. Rain fell on , 22 days. The heaviest fall, 54 points, was recorded on the fourth day | of the month. On September 9 46{ points were recorded, this being the second heaviest fall for the month. On j 15 of the other days on which rain was j recorded the fall exceeded 10 points. : The total rainfall for the nine months of the year is 27.08 inches, compared with 27.01 for the same period last year. Only 2.23 inches of rain fell during September last year. The hours of sunshine for the month totalled 102.81, compared with 160 hours for September last year. The | longest period of sunshine for one day was 9.5 hours, recorded on the 17th. | The total for the nine months of | the year is now 1013.20, compared with 1309.33 hours for the first nine months of last year. The highest temperature for the month was 69 degrees on September i 27. The lowest maximum temperature was 46 degrees on September 13. The temperature fell below 50 degrees on seven occasions.
