Fair to Cloudy
(Special) WELLINGTON, October 1. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m. tomorrow: — An anti-cyclone is centred near Auckland and a depression is advancing across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast: Fresh to strong northwesterly winds. The weather fair to cloudy and mild, but occasional rain Spreading from the west by the evening and a cold southerly change likely by Tuesday morning.
The weather in Invercargill on Saturday was mild and sunny until late in the afternoon, when rain fell and continued steadily during the night. A north-westerly wind prevailed. Dull weather was experienced yesterday morning, but the sun shone in the afternoon.
The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and cloudy, with a moderate westerly wind. The barometer reading was 29.98 in. (falling). THE TIDES—High water, Invercargill, 2.31 a.m, 2.58 p.m.; Bluff, 1.50 a.m., 2.17 p.m.; Riverton, 0.50 a.m., 1.17 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 0.59 a.m., 1.26 pm. THE SUN—Rises, 6.18 a.m.; sets, 6.57 n.m.
