NO-CONFIDENCE IN EXECUTIVE

Westport Railway Workers (P.A.) WESTPORT, October 1.

A resolution of no-confidence in the national executive of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, including the general secretary, Mr L. Mcllvride, was passed by a special meeting of members of the Westport branch of the A.S.R.S. today. The meeting further carried a resolution that Mr Mcllvride be called upon to resign and recontest his seat. It was decided that a telegram be sent to the national secretary asking whether the executive council would -press for an all-round increase in pay of 6d an hour when the tribunal sits in Wellington this month. Failing a guarantee that the executive will do this, further action will be taken.

The attack made by the Minister of Railways, Mr Semple, on the secretary of the Canterbury branch of the society, Mr A. B. Grant,, was deplored. It was claimed in the resolution that the secretary was only carrying out his duty as the representative of the men. The action of tire Canterbury branch was endorsed.
